Disarmament and International Security Committee (General Assembly 1): DISEC
China built artificial islands with an area of close to 3,000 acres on seven coral reefs it occupies in the Spratly Islands in the south of the South China Sea. Since the Spratly Islands are important for the regional ecology the building process made the global concern. Also, China’s activities upon the island building have negatively affected fisheries in the area. The process led to increased Chinese fishing in the surrounding waters, which clearly raises the risk of a disunity between Chinese fisheries and other concessionnaire countries. Will the committee find a solution upon the topic?
